Ulko-Tammio

The jewel of the Eastern Gulf of Finland, the island of Ulko-Tammio, belongs to Finland’s national parks. The island is uninhabited and harbors rare birds and plants. Ulko-Tammio’s beautiful and lush nature, with its rugged rocky shores, is impressive. You can hike along well-marked nature trails on Ulko-Tammio, and the island’s bird tower offers a magnificent view of the national park.

During the wars, the island of Ulko-Tammio was fortified as an advanced frontier post along the new eastern border. Reminders of the island’s wartime history include a cave originally intended as a shelter for the crew during World War II and two restored cannons in their original positions.

Ulko-Tammio can be reached by your own boat, sea cruises organized by MeriSet company or by catching a water taxi at Vaakku or with Bout. The beautiful archipelago route from Kotka to Tammio Island takes from one to two hours depending on the weather and the vessel.
