Dinner at Malmgård Castle

August 4, 2023

Since 2007, Henrik Creutz has been managing the Malmgård estate in Loviisa, a property that has remained in the same family’s ownership for over 400 years. The doors of this private residence are open to travelers through guided castle tours led by Henrik Creutz. The traditions of Malmgård Castle date back to the 17th century.

Malmgård specializes in organic farming, the production of organic products, and manor tourism. The estate also houses a brewery, a shop, and a summer restaurant.

The unique surroundings and Malmgård’s own products inspire the creation of a dinner experience in which customers actively participate. The dinner at Malmgård Castle consists of three parts. The experience begins with a castle tour, guided by Count Henrik Creutz. Following this, guests take part in the preparation of the dinner in the castle kitchen, alongside the head chef. During the cooking, guests learn about Malmgård estate’s products and traditional recipes. Finally, the jointly prepared dinner is enjoyed in the castle’s grand hall. The menu is always tailored to the season and the customer’s preferences. Additional activities, such as beer tastings or artist visits, can be included in the experience.

Dining at Malmgård Castle is a memorable experience, ideal for corporate clients or celebrating special occasions.

Malmgård Castle Tours

Malmgård’s historical manor invites visitors to explore the unique story, atmosphere, landscape, and products of Malmgård estate.

“Malmgård Castle is a private home where people live, not a museum. We decided to open our home because people are interested in history, and we want to showcase this unique heritage,” says Creutz.

Malmgård Castle welcomes tourists for castle tours during the summer season, by appointment.

Henrik Creutz personally guides every castle tour.

“The tour covers a significant portion of the house. I share the history of the house and my ancestors, whose portraits adorn the castle’s walls. Except for my parents, the entire lineage is captured in these portraits,” Creutz explains.

The two-story brick-built castle was constructed in the 1880s in the Neo-Renaissance style. The castle boasts 3,000 square meters of space, with as many rooms as there are weeks in a year and windows as there are days in a year.

Naturally, the castle houses numerous valuable antique items and furniture. Henrik Creutz often discovers “treasures” hidden in the castle’s office.

“Everyday matters written by my ancestors on paper are precious to me. Not long ago, a friend found a piece of paper that was worthless to them but invaluable to me because it allowed me to get to know the old generations. This paper contained recipes noted down by Dora Wahlroos, a portrait artist who painted pictures at Malmgård Castle 120 years ago. One of these recipes gave birth to Malmgård’s newest product, Countess Hortense’s sponge cake. Countess Hortense lived in Malmgård Castle from 1859 to 1954,” Creutz says.

“It’s wonderful to find traces of everyday life from generations past and realize that my ancestors faced the same everyday challenges we do today,” Creutz adds.
