Kotka’s Sunila factory and worker’s residential area were completed between 1937 and 1939 and form a complex that clearly reflects the influence of 1930s modernism. You can immediately recognize Alvar Aalto’s handwriting in the extensive and cohesive residential area. It is Aino and Alvar Aalto’s largest realized design work. You can also admire the Aalto architecture in Sunila along the route.

In Hamina, you can explore the milieu of the Summa paper mill designed by Alvar Aalto, as well as the residential areas for the paper mill workers and management designed by him in Petkele.
