Maretarium – fantastic underwater world of Finnish fishes

Maretarium is a unique aquarium of Finnish fishes, where our scaly friends live in harmony with the seasons. Maretarium is not only entertaining but also an exciting and useful experience for the whole family. There is plenty to capture your attention and lots of information. Maretarium suits everyone's taste!

The four seasons of Maretarium

In Maretarium, the fish, frogs and water creatures live in harmony with the seasons of Finnish nature. Autumn is the spawning time for salmon and trout; February for burbot; spring for pike, river lamprey, ide, bream, perch and vimba; and summer for ray-finned fish, gudgeon and zander. The Baltic Sea basin contains over half a million litres of water, and you can also observe the daily weather changes there, from sunshine to snowfall.  Whatever the season of your visit to Maretarium, there is plenty to experience.

Is the fish taking the bait? Yes it is!

At Maretarium, we also dive-feed the fish. A diver feeds the fish of the Baltic Sea basin daily in the summer and 2–3 times a week the rest of the year, at 3 pm. That is a good time to pop in to the Sea Theatre, since there will be lots of splashing and things to see.

Hello, Miss Mascot Hanna the Pike!

In addition to watching and spotting fishes and small water creatures, Maretarium also offers plenty of other interesting and fun things to do. You can visit the changing exhibition of nature photography, watch DVD shows in the Sea Theatre, participate in exercises in the nature school, and more. You can enjoy a tasty lunch and refreshments in the coffee shop and buy your souvenirs in the Meripuoti Sea Shop. Meripuoti Sea Shop sells products of the WWF, the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation and the “Pidä Saaristo Siistinä” Association (Keep the Archipelago Clean). And you never know, you might bump into Miss Hanna Hauki of the Pike family, the mascot of Maretarium!

A warm welcome to you!
