Restaurant Vaakku

Restaurant Vaakku is located on Varissaari, about a ten-minute boat ride from the mainland’s Sapokka harbor in Kotka. Vaakku is a high-class, summer-casual à la carte restaurant. The menu is crafted from the best seasonal ingredients, respecting availability and customer preferences. The restaurant’s services also include Sauna Raft Kiulu, suitable for 12 people, rental SUP boards, and tailor-made RIB boat rides according to preferences.

Varissaari combines the tranquility of nature, breathtaking sea views, and local fortress history. Reminders of its military history include parts and cannons salvaged from the frigate St. Nikolai, which sank in the naval battles of Ruotsinsalmi in the late 18th century. During the summer season, the restaurant’s own vessel, m/s Klippan, operates to the island every hour, and arrangements can be made for transportation at separate times. Using Varissaari’s RIB taxi boat, you can also reach other islands in the Eastern Gulf of Finland.

During good winters when the ice is thick enough, locals walk across the ice to Vaakku for warm drinks and snacks. Follow Winter Vaakku’s opening hours on Vaakku’s Facebook page and website. Remember to move on the sea ice carefully, following the locals with ice picks around your neck.

Groups can enjoy a pre-ordered Kymenlaakso menu at Vaakku.
