Welcome to the first ever festival of nature listening! The world’s quietest festival Hiljaa Fest (“Quietly Fest”) also known as Quietchella, will open 10 October at Valkmusa National Park in Pyhtää, Finland. Instead of dazzling popstars and pedal-to-the-metal rock, this free festival will feature stars such as the black grouse, the wind, and the bog moss.

Experience the Lapland of Southern Finland at Hiljaa Fest

The Valkmusa National Park, located in Pyhtää, is approximately a 90-minute drive east from the Finnish capital of Helsinki. Valkmusa is a natural mire region, rare in the southern parts of Finland; it is home to up to 40 different mire habitats. Local people call Valkamusa the Lappland of Souther Finland because of its unspoiled mire landscapes. Valkmusa has paths covered with plank boardwalks, resting stops and observation towers, making it easier for visitors to walk and enjoy.

The Festival will open on Saturday, 10 October – and won’t be limited to just a one-off show. After its opening day, the festival will continue throughout the fall season as an unguided experience: all Valkmusa visitors can explore the national park’s trails, sights and soundscapes independently and at their chosen pace.

Who is Hiljaa Fest for?

Hiljaa Fest is open to everyone interested in tuning in to nature. No previous experience of festivals or outdoor adventures is required.

Please note that the festival area is accessible via boardwalks and forest trails, and the event is currently not suitable for visitors who require mobility aids.

As festivalgoers, we follow Finland’s outdoor code: respecting nature, leaving no trace, and treating the environment and its performers with care.

When do the gates open?

Hiljaa Fest opens its gates on Saturday, 10 October 2026, in Valkmusa National Park.

Opening Day is an invitation-only event. After the grand opening, Hiljaa Fest becomes a self-guided festival experience, open to everyone. Drop by whenever you like and explore the line-up at your own pace.

What’s on the line-up?

Hiljaa Fest features 13 unique nature stars of Valkmusa, performing across four dedicated stages.

At this festival, you won’t be rushing from one act to another. Instead, you’ll slow down, listen, observe, and experience Valkmusa’s headline performers in their natural venues.

The line-up includes artists from both the plant and animal kingdoms. Every performer appears on their own terms, in their own habitat, and according to their own schedule.

Meet the festival’s headline act

The face of Hiljaa Fest is the Rämekulmumittari (Idaea muricata), the official symbol of Valkmusa National Park and one of Finland’s rarest moth species.

However, true stars can be unpredictable. Due to its natural behaviour and flight season, our headliner may choose not to perform at all… or surprise visitors with an unannounced guest appearance.

Where can I find the stages and who’s performing?

At Hiljaa Fest, you’ll get to enjoy nature’s hottest acts across four unique stages:

Räme Stage (1A)

Closest to the main entrance. Home to fragrant marsh Labrador tea and windswept gnarled pines of the mire, this is the festival’s aromatic opening stage.

Labrador tea

The very essence of the mire’s distinctive scent. In the morning dew, Labrador Tea is at full volume. Many people recognise its unmistakable fragrance as the smell of a mire without knowing the performer behind it.

Gnarled Pines of the Mire

The mire’s own group installation. In the nutrient-poor conditions of the mire, pines grow slowly, twisting into extraordinary shapes along the way. How many different forms can you spot?

Neva Stage (2B)

The festival’s main stage and the heart of the open bog. Its colours and scenery change with the seasons. Catch the iconic headliners of the mire: Sphagnum Moss, Sundew, Cloudberry, Cranberry, Morning Mist, and the ever-changing scents of the wind.

Peat Moss

The foundation of the entire festival. Literally. The life of the open mire rests on Peat Moss, the resilient moss that creates and shapes the habitat beneath your feet.

Cloudberry

A much-loved orange classic berry growing alongside the boardwalks. One of the mire’s true crowd favourites.

Sundew

A tiny carnivorous plant that rewards a front-row view. Its beauty is easy to miss unless you slow down, crouch closer and take a proper look.

Cranberry

Sharp, jewel-like and beautifully bright. Look closely along the boardwalks and you may spot Cranberries well into the autumn.

Morning Mist

The early-morning opening show. On a cool, still morning, mist can roll across the entire stage, wrapping the mire in soft, hazy light.

Scent of the Wind and Sounds of the Mire

The festival’s own soundcheck. Stop. Be still. Listen. See how much is happening when everything else goes quiet.

Simonsaari Stage (3C)

An elevated viewing stage overlooking the entire festival grounds. A favourite spot for birdwatchers and boardwalk wanderers alike. Performers include Black Grouse, Common Crane, and Common Lizard.

Black Grouse

The elaborate lekking displays of these woodland grouse are a local live classic. Big gestures, plenty of attitude and no need for a stage manager.

Common Crane

A diva of a dancing bird, complete with long legs, theatrical moves and a voice that carries for kilometres without amplification. In autumn, Common Cranes gather in large flocks before setting off south together. Catch a formation overhead and you may have witnessed the most spectacular finale of the season.

Viviparous Lizard

A regular in the boardwalk chill-out zone, often found warming itself in the sun. You may meet this shy performer if you tread lightly and approach quietly.

Moronvuori Korpisuo Stage (4D)

A special side stage featuring the festival’s finest viewpoint and most dramatic scenery. Headlining here: the magnificent Moronvuori Cliffs.
