The Archipelago Museum in Loviisa

The Archipelago Museum in Rönnäs, Loviisa, offers an interesting insight into the cultural history of the archipelago. In the basic exhibition, you can see and experience how the archipelago was settled and how agriculture adapted to maritime culture. The exhibition gives an interesting insight into the region’s livelihoods, such as sealing, fishing and bird hunting, and of course coastal sailing and piloting. Behind it all is the boat, the islander’s main means of work and transport.

The museum’s boat exhibition is about boats and boat sculpture. It shows types of wooden boats, introduces you to boat-building techniques and describes, for example, how to make a boat with a flat seam and a glue seam. More recent boat culture is presented in an exhibition on boat engines and pleasure boating.

On summer 2025 the museum is open from June 14th to August 17th Wed-Sun 12-17.

Welcome to discover the history of the archipelago!
