Loviisa Town Museum
The Loviisa City Museum comprises three sites: the Commandant’s House in the center of Loviisa, the Strömfors Ironworks Museum in Ruotsinpyhtää, and the Viirilä Local History Museum.
Commandant’s House
In addition to its permanent exhibition, the Commandant’s House hosts seasonal themed exhibitions. Built in 1755, the building itself is quite a beauty! For families and groups of friends, the museum’s first curator, the eccentric Dr. Jedvard D:sson Iverus, has hidden riddles that require teamwork and good reasoning skills to solve. Strömfors Ironworks Museum
At the Strömfors Ironworks Museum, you can learn about the ironworks of the past and the work of blacksmiths, and see what tools were used to make iron objects such as nails and tools. The Ironworks Museum is open in the summer, but you can explore the culturally and historically significant ironworks area all year round. Read More
The Viirilä Local History Museum
The Viirilä Local History Museum presents the peasant and craft culture of past centuries. The harmonious view of the fields from the museum’s charming courtyard is rural cultural landscape at its best. Most of the museum’s more than 3,000 objects originate from the folk tradition collection work carried out by university students in the 1960s. Viirilä is open regularly in July on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 4 pm.
