Pernaja's Mikael Agricola Museum

Located in the Agricola House in Pernaja, the Agricola Museum honors the life’s work Mikael Agricola who was born and raised in Pernaja. The museum tells the story of Agricola’s journey from his childhood in Pernaja to studying the teachings of Martin Luther abroad, and eventually returning to Finland as Bishop of Turku and a peace negotiator. The museum is a must-see destination for anyone interested in Finnish history and the Finnish language.

Mikael Agricola is often referred to as the father of written Finnish. Agricola was the Bishop of Turku and a key figure of the Protestant Reformation who translated the Bible into Finnish and wrote and translated the first books in the Finnish language. This great historical figure was born in Pernaja, an area that is now part of the town of Loviisa.

Admission to the museum is free of charge, and it offers something for visitors of all ages. The museum complex also includes a summer gallery, and coffee service can be arranged for groups in the venue’s function hall.
