Kotka-Hamina region is situated on the southeast coast of Finland, on the shores of the Baltic Sea. It consists of the cities of Kotka and Hamina and the towns of Pyhtää, Miehikkälä and Virolahti. Thanks to the new fast E18-motorway, it takes you only one hour to get here from Helsinki!

Kotka has a plenty of parking areas without any restrictions. They are usually located not on the central streets (i.e. Kymenlaakonkatu, Papinkatu, Itäkatu, Ruukinkatu etc.). In addition to that, there is free parking available next to Kotka's main attractions (near Maritime Center Vellamo Tornatorintie, near Maretarium and Sapokka Water Garden Sapokankatu 2). In red an indoor parking Toriparkki is marked (drive in via Laivurinkatu). Parking places where you need to use parking disk are marked in green. In case you need to pay for parking, you can utilize ParkMan application and pay with a help of your mobile device. In case of incorrect parking, there is a fine of 40 euros so please read through the rules carefully before you park your car!


In Hamina there is no paid parking. There are only some places where you need to use parking disk (parking at market square (2 h) and Town Hall square Raatihuoneentori - 1 h). Good places for parking without any limitations: Vallikatu, Rautatienkatu between Vallikatu-Mannerheimintie, Rautatienkatu at the bus station area, Tervasaari, parking in the front of St. Mary Church Pikkuympyräkatu street.

Long-distance bus connections

Direct daily connections from Helsinki, Tampere, Lahti, Jyväskylä and other cities. Local bus stations are situated in Kotka (Kymenlaaksonkatu 17), Karhula (Matkakuja 4) and Hamina (Rautatienkatu 2). Matkahuolto service points are located in Karhula (Kotka), Matkakuja 2. Service point in Hamina is on Rautatienkatu 2.

Onnibussi (lowcoster) runs between Helsinki and Kotka 6 times a day. It also has route from Kotka to Tampere. Helsinki route stops only at Kotka Bus station and Prisma Sutela bus stop. On Tampere routes stops only at Kotka bus station and Karhula bus station.

City buses

City buses timetables can be seen here Ticket price: 3,50 €, low traffic hours 3,20 € (change time 1 hour). Tickets can be purchased from the bus. Bus stops in Kotka city center at Kotka square (Kirkkokatu 6) and Kotka Church (Kirkkokatu 26, Hamina bus stops at Kirkkokatu 6 and Kotkankatu 13). In Hamina bus stops at Hamina square Kauvokatu 6. Airport transfers

From Helsinki-Vantaa Airport there is 1,5 hour drive to Kotka-Hamina region. There is also a bus connection to Pyhtää, Kotka and Hamina. Timetables and tickets from Matkahuolto website.

  • Allegro - fast train connection from Kouvola, purchase ticket from directly from Kotka to Finlandsky Station, St. Petersburg
  • Lev Tolstoi - Helsinki-Moscow, connection from Kouvola 
  • Lux Express, 3 connections per day on roure St. Petersburg- Helsinki-st. Petersburg. You can catch Lux Express from Kotka at Karhula bus station. from Karhula bus station there is bus connection to Kotka city center (10 min by bus #1 and #6).
